The unintended expat blogger behind SeedRootBranch

Hi, I am Sophia
I am a project manager, a parent, and an expat living in Toronto, Canada.
A few years ago I moved here with my family. What began as a temporary contract gradually evolved into a new chapter of life overseas.
How It Started
Moving to Canada wasn't part of the long-range plan. Like many relocations for expatriates, it started as a job opportunity and soon grew into something far more significant.
Those first months were demanding — unfamiliar systems, new routines, fresh expectations. Routine tasks seemed more complicated than they should be.
The Adjustment Period
Culture shock, uncertainty, and a lot of learning on the job were part of it. Yet gradually, routines settled in. We found places that fit us, connected with other families, and began putting together something that felt steady.
Why I Built SeedRootBranch
Most online information tended to be either corporate relocation guidance or shallow tourism content. What was missing was an honest, day-to-day family perspective.
This site exists to bridge that gap — practical guidance drawn from real life in Canada.
What This Site Is (And Isn't)
This site IS:
- Practical know-how from living in Canada
- Centered on family life and everyday realities
- Updated only when something truly changes
This site ISN'T:
- A tourism authority resource
- Sponsored review platform
- A generic travel blog
Looking Ahead
Our time in Canada continues, and so does the learning process. As long as the information is useful, I’ll keep documenting what we discover.
If you have questions about family life in Toronto or anywhere in Canada, please get in touch.
Best regards,
Sophia
